Pathways

Digital Surrealism Written Statement

In my Digital Surrealism work titled “Pathways“, I used a background of mountains, a hand and one of my models, walking on the hand. The pathways of the mountain were suppose to blend in with the lines on the hand. The meaning of my work is “Don’t let other people choose your path in life.” To represent that meaning even more, I had my model walk on the hand representing the path that she is choosing to go on.

To start off “Pathways”, I wanted t do something about being yourself, so I began to sketch some ideas and I came up with the pathways idea. After planning, I took a picture of my model walking with her back facing the camera. Next, I took a picture of her hand with the lines of her hand as the main focus of the picture. Then I used the quick selection tool to crop out just my model and I added her to the mountain photo. The next step, was to cut out the hand and also put it in the mountain photo. I lowered the opacity for both the hand and the model to show a fading effect to my work. To finish off my work, I played around with the contrast, brightness and curves of the photo.

Some things I learned throughout making “Pathways” were how to control the flash of the camera while it takes pictures and to focus the camera to get a cleaner, professional photo. In Photoshop, I learned some easier ways to cut something out a photo and place it to a different photo. In the end, I am very satisfied with my work and I feel like I took everything I learned this semester and applied it to my final culminating assignment.

369 Video Project

This week in CyberARTS, our project was to create a 30 second video with a partner. The video had to include different camera angle and clip transitions.

Some strengths my partner and I had were putting the clips in order and adding transitions. The lighting was also a be strength because we were able to see everything clearly. A weakness we had was the stability of the camera. In some scenes, the camera was very shaky.

The music in the background was happy and exciting to represent a strong, happy friendship. The music matched the video perfectly in the meaning and the actual final video. The louder and more emphasised parts of the song were at the zoomed in part of the video that made our video that much better and the lower parts of the song were at the zoomed out parts which made our video perfect.

The transitions in our video was based on a book and it was about best friends doing origami. So what my partner and I did for the video, is we added page turning transitions and scrapbook templates to make our video feel like a book or a story.

My experience working with my partner was really fun overall. One down part was when we couldn't figure out a topic for the video, but if we didn't work together, we wouldn't have created such a great video. If I could this project again with the same partner, I would.

Hope you enjoy the video! :)
